Saturday's action from the 13th round of the 2024 Formula 1 season.

Lando Norris, McLaren MCL38

F1 takes on a double-header dash before the summer break, starting in Hungary before a trip to Spa-Francorchamps, following the thrilling recent trio of races concluded by Lewis Hamilton’s emotional British GP triumph.

Lando Norris led the way on Friday from Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz after Charles Leclerc ended his day early in the wall.

Final practice starts at 11:30pm BST, followed by qualifying at 3pm BST.

Stroll goes fourth and pushes Hamilton down, with Albon going ninth.

That's one issue for the Mercedes gone.

Hamilton's down in eighth and wrestling the car on his lap. Not even a personal best in the middle sector...

The queue is crazy as drivers build gaps.

"We're getting done here, this is taking too long," says Hulkenberg, who may not get back around to start a lap.

Just over three minutes to go and there's a queue at the end of the pits. Will any of the bottom five get into Q3?

Sainz pumps a second time in to jump to third, with most drivers pitting to prepare for the final runs.

5:30 remaining on the clock.

Leclerc manages fifth fastest to push Bottas down, with Ricciardo yet to hit the track and the only driver without a time.

He is joined by Hulkenberg, Albon, Sargeant and Bottas in the drop zone.

Magnussen and Tsunoda both jumped ahead of Sainz, with Bottas currently 10th.

Piastri crosses the line just 0.015s off Verstappen, with Alonso and Stroll third and fourth.

The McLaren was on used tyres. That's even more of a boom!

Hamilton did go faster, but Verstappen has delivered a 'boom' moment - a 1m15.770s.

Hamilton will be the next over the line and he is already up on Sainz, though Verstappen is three-tenths up on a set of new tyres.

An opening 1m17.028s to set the benchmark as others now join Sainz on track.

There's only one car on track to start with and that is Sainz's Ferrari.

Q2 is underway, will there be the same level of chaos?

While Russell took responsibility after the session, a delayed message can hear him questioning why the car was not fuelled to the end of the session.

So it's Perez - who crashed - Russell, Zhou, Gasly and Ocon are the five that fall.

The same can't be said down at Alpine, with Ocon visibly furious as he makes his way to the FIA garage for the compulsory parc ferme checks.

Russell team radio: "I'm sorry about this session guys, that one is on me."

Norris ended up down in 13th... that would have been a nervous end for McLaren.

Bottas goes 10th for Sauber, something that Zhou can't replicate, and Sargeant also improves.

That means Russell is out! The Mercedes driver fails to advance.

Time expires as Stroll goes fourth and Ricciardo goes FASTEST!

Where has this come from? This is bad for Alpine. Albon and Hulkenberg go into the top six.

It's looking like an issue for Alpine as Stroll and Ricciardo go personal best in the first sector.

Verstappen improves to go second, the track, somehow, is drying and improving!

Russell posts a time good enough to jump from 14th to 10th.

Neither Alpine is on track, despite sitting 11th and 13th. That's a gutsy call.

Russell is on his second lap out of the pits now and is already six-tenths down on Hamilton's time.

Ten cars are out on track now as green sector times start to show. How quickly is the track coming to these drivers?

Only five cars are on track which means the dry line won't emerge as quickly. Whilst dry enough for slicks, this isn't dry enough for fast times. DRS is still disabled, too.

It certainly looks dry enough, it is hard to believe given the rain that was falling five minutes ago.

Here we go!

Both Saubers are out on track with soft tyres, as is Russell in 14th place.

What will the times look like?

Sagreant must have pranged the front suspension in that knock with the barrier earlier as Williams get to work on repairs. The session is close to restarting.

Perez is a man under pressure from Red Bull regarding his place in F1 and, after crashing at Silverstone, this is not going to help his case.

Liam Lawson and Tsunoda will be itching to get into that seat.

Whilst the red flags are out, the rain has increased.

It looks like that will be it for Q1, which means Ricciardo, Stroll, Magnussen, Zhou and Hulkenberg are consigned to elimination - barring any miracles.

It's the same mistake as Russell made on his lap, though at least the Mercedes caught the slide.

To be fair to Perez, it's not a ridiculous error, but they are piling up.

Perez grabbed the kerb on entry to Turn 8 and rotated into the barriers.

The medical light comes on so that will be a trip to the medical centre. He was ninth, there was no need to take risks. Was it a needless risk, or just one of those accidents in such conditions?

Big crash for Perez. That is the last thing he needed - there is a lot of damage.

Ocon goes 10th with his latest lap, the last of those within a second of Hamilton's best effort, whilst Russell makes a mistake in the middle part of the lap to stay P14.

Ricciardo falls as Gasly goes 11th.

Russell is in danger down in 14th as a result.

Leclerc improves but only up to ninth, with Verstappen up to third with a better lap.

The track is still evolving despite the raindrops.

Stroll, Magnussen, Zhou, Hulkenberg and Gasly are the bottom five with nine minutes left.
