Verstappen's dropped a 1m36.743s on those fresh mediums - a second quicker than Bottas' last lap.
Norris is going so fast that McLaren wave him through to overtake team-mate Ricciardo to move up to seventh place on lap 34.
Mercedes looks unmoved so far, with the crew sitting it out for now. Hamilton seems to be reasonably happy at the moment.

Pitting that much later has paid off for Norris who overtakes Sainz at Turn 1 and is up to P8. The McLaren driver is flying right now.

Verstappen pits for a second time! Medium tyres go on - either Mercedes respond, or they risk a reverse Barcelona...

The Norris vs Gasly incident from earlier was noted by the race stewards but it has been deemed not worthy of an investigation. Probably right, as the drivers have sorted out the squabble on the track.

Hamilton's losing time to Verstappen and he's 2.2s behind. Mercedes seems to be leaning towards sticking with the one-stop, so he might be saving something.

Leclerc then loses a further two places in quick succession to Norris and Gasly which sees the Ferrari driver drop to 11th place.

Discussions on the radio over two-stopping - which I think is inevitable at this point. Hamilton wants first call on a second stop.

At Turn 1 the Ferrari drivers switch positions to release Sainz, with Leclerc struggling for pace on his hard tyres, and further around the lap at Turn 8 Norris gets ahead of Gasly for ninth place.

Norris and Gasly get incredibly close around the final sector, at least we think so, as the TV director shows their fight through a tiny in-screen box while focusing on the leaders. Gasly runs wide but keeps position.

"We cannot keep this up until the end of the race, that's for sure," says Verstappen.

Ricciardo's race engineer admires his driver's work with a simple "nice" as he gets by Ocon at Turn 1 for eighth place. The Alpine driver then loses places to Sainz, Gasly and Norris - Ocon's tyres must be really crying out now.

Vettel and Stroll continue with the Aston Martin long-game - their pace is still looking good and are lapping faster than the majority of cars behind them.
Norris comes out in P14 which, when taking into account those yet to stop, is roughly where he was earlier in the race. He'll look to chase down Gasly with tyres that are nine laps fresher.
I wonder if the Merc play is to pit again - although Perez is probably too far in that window to make it work.
Race leader Perez now makes his stop, which was distinctly rapid. Norris also makes his stop for hards.

And just like that Raikkonen goes from P11 to P14 in the space of a lap as Ricciardo, Sainz and Gasly fly by him with their newer tyres.

"We're enjoying this Valtteri, keep going," says race engineer Riccardo Musconi. He's having his best run in a while.

Leclerc, on the fresher tyres, gets by Raikkonen to take 10th place. That particular group which has stopped is quickly catching those yet to stop, so overtakes a plenty coming up.

Renowned tyre-whisperer Perez is sticking to a one-stop, with an extra three laps anticipated. He'll be a way off, but with some much fresher boots.

There will be plenty of focus on the drivers who started on the hards now to see how long they can go for and at what pace. Vettel is the leader of that gang, currently sixth, with an eight-second gap over team-mate Stroll.

Hamilton does, however, have DRS on Verstappen. With Bottas in tow, Mercedes could mount an assault if they can find the grip in sector 1.
That's the power of the undercut, kids. Verstappen was quick on his outlap and managed to slash the disadvantage he had over Hamilton.
Hamilton now comes in to make his stop, a tidy stop from Mercedes to get him out on the hards - but Verstappen gets ahead and claims the net lead!

All the midfield runners that started on medium tyres have pitted for the hards - except for Norris who is going on a little longer.

Red Bull responds and brings in Verstappen - who rejoins just ahead of Bottas to hold position.
Bottas rejoins in fourth, and will have a chance to undercut Verstappen now.

Gasly does indeed pit, joined by Sainz and Russell, but it is to little effect as Ricciardo storms past to gain track position on the AlphaTauri and Ferrari drivers.

Bottas is the first of the front runners to box, collecting fresh hard tyres - and Sainz and Gasly follow him in to also pick up hard tyres.

"Box to overtake Gasly," Ricciardo is told over his McLaren team radio. The Australian duly pits, so we'll expect Gasly to pit next time around to try to defend against the undercut.

"Keep pushing hard, try to avoid kerbs on the front left," Bottas is told. Lots of wear management going on.

On lap 16 both Tsunoda and Schumacher pit to follow the same strategy as Leclerc - ditching the mediums for hards.

Leclerc, another who was really suffering on his mediums and had been overtaken by Ricciardo, pits on lap 15 to ditch those mediums for hards. The Ferrari driver comes out in P19.

Alonso radios to his Alpine team for "Plan B" - which will probably be a switch to a two-stop strategy.

Bottas had a lock-up at Turn 3, going too deep and snatching at the brakes.

And the Aston Martin driver duly gets the move done in good time, under braking at Turn 8, to take 10th place from Alonso. The Alpine driver is really struggling on his medium tyres.

"A lot more degradation than anyone anticipated," Sainz reports. Nobody's very happy on track, but if it yields an extra stop it might shake things up...

Vettel, the first of the hard tyre runners, is now reeling in Alonso in the hunt for P10.

Hamilton's extended the gap over Verstappen to 2s, while continuing to lament the state of his tyres. Bottas is slowly being reeled in by Perez, meanwhile.
