Ferrari are some way adrift of the pace at the moment. Charles Leclerc is P9 some 1.5s shy of Bottas. Sainz after his spin and struggles is only P15, 0.3s slower than his team-mate.
There might be some floor damage on Verstappen's car after his hop over the kerbs.
Verstappen is on a flyer. He is the fastest in Sector 2 but he runs wide over the kerbs in the final sector. The Dutchman backs out of the lap.
Mercedes is on top as we just sneak over the halfway mark in this session.
Verstappen reports that his "front axle does not want to turn".
Bottas' effort was 0.335s faster than Hamilton. Impressive lap that.
The canvas is showing on the Sainz's front right. Those tyres will be going straight in the bin.
Sainz limping back to the pits after a spin that has ruined his tyres.
Verstappen's first flyer on the softs is 0.097s slower than Hamilton.
Hamilton goes fastest with a 1m33.783s on the softs. Verstappen is also on the softs now.
Perez fastest in sectors 2 and 3. The Red Bull driver improves but stays in P2. The Baku winner is 0.054s shy of Verstappen.
Mercedes has reported its concerns about the yellow sausage kerbs to the FIA. Ron Meadows claims that it has done a fair bit of damage to Bottas' car after he ran over them early on.
Decent start for McLaren with Daniel Ricciardo and Norris sitting P5 and P6 respectively. Obviously still a long way to go, 37 minutes in fact.
Perez moves to P2 now, 0.4s adrift of Red Bull team-mate Verstappen.
Worth pointing out that Roy Nissany is in the Williams normally driven by George Russell for this session, if you are wondering where the Brit is.
Bottas has taken over P2 from Mercedes team-mate Hamilton. Bottas is 0.5s adrift of Verstappen.
Vettel does make it back to the pits. He is sitting P14 at the moment.
Replays show Vettel lost the rear and was sent rearwards into the barriers at speed, damaging the rear wing.
Vettel is off. A big moment for the Aston Martin driver. He has hit the wall but engine is still running and he gets going again.
Nikita Mazepin clearly not happy on the radio as he allows a Ferrari by.
Esteban Ocon moves to P13. The Frenchman has this week put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with Alpine.
Lewis Hamilton has jumped up to P2 but is 0.694s shy of Verstappen.
Fernando Alonso and Mick Schumacher are yet to post a timed lap.
Verstappen now smashes Sainz's effort by 1.2s. The championship leader pumps in a 1m34.139s.
Carlos Sainz to the top now with a 1m35.242s. The Ferrari man pips McLaren's Lando Norris.
Kimi Raikkonen is the next driver to run wide over the razor sharp kerbs in his Alfa Romeo.
Verstappen is currently fastest with a 1m35.639s set on the hard tyres.
Replays show that Bottas ran over the exit kerbs which has damaged the front wing.
Bottas back to the pits with front wing damage on the Mercedes after an off at Turn 2.
Plenty of flow-vis paint on the front of Max Verstappen's front wing. Red Bull clearly having a look at something on the front of the car.
Tsunoda has had a moment at the final corner but gets going again.
Some interesting aero rakes on the front wings on Vettel's Aston Martin.
Schumacher has gone off the road at Turn 3 in the Haas. He gets going again after nudging the barriers.
Nice tribute on the McLaren cars to the late Mansour Ojjeh who sadly passed away earlier this month.
A nice little F1 Fast Fact for you. Mercedes, Porsche, Brabham and Renault teams all scored their first F1 world championship wins in France. Dan Gurney scored Porsche's victory at the 1962 French GP at Rouen.
