Air temperature with just over 10 minutes to go is 23C and track temperature is 26C – the latter is much lower than yesterday.

 

Yuki Tsunoda and Carlos Sainz will be starting from the pitlane after their teams made changes under parc ferme conditions.

Meanwhile, after a streak of processional races with not much strategic variety – despite Pirelli introducing a 'step' between the harder compounds on the US and Mexico – the possibility of mandating two-stop races has crept onto the agenda.

This is one of those ideas which regularly comes up but is a classic "quick fix" which probably won't work in practice, as is the fate of most supposedly easy solutions to complex problems. You'll note the farrago in Monaco this year when two stops were enforced.

So the idea is going to be discussed but quite a few teams have sent up warning flags.

WEATHERWATCH

Much speculation through yesterday about what the sprint race might look like, given the impending arrival of a cyclone.

It actually hit Sao Paulo overnight. So while the circuit is currently damp in places, there has been no rain for a while and the forecast is a little mixed. We'll update you on tyre choices as soon as we can.

Other news to have happened this weekend is Alpine's renewal of Franco Colapinto's contract for 2026. That means nine of 11 teams have now confirmed their driver pairing for next year:
