For the avoidance of any doubt, everybody out on track is on softs for Q2.
Perez not happy about Aston releasing Vettel into his path out of the garage. A few choice words exchanged over the radio between the Mexican and his Red Bull engineer.
Just the 11 cars rushing out at the start of the session - those to play it cool and hang back are the AlphaTauris of FP3 pace-setter Gasly and Tsunoda, plus Raikkonen and Russell.
Here we go, Q2 is underway. Can it match the drama provided by Q1?
Hamilton topped Q1 - the first time a Mercedes has been fastest all weekend - while Bottas was only P12. How will the Finn's 1.2s deficit parlay into Q2?
Well, that was a rather eventful Q1 wasn't it? Time for a five-minute breather before Q2 comes along.
Latifi heads to the pits and joins the Haas drivers - Schumacher responding well from his crash-filled weekend in Monaco to outqualify Mazepin - in dropping out of Q1, while Norris makes a late improvement to fifth to put his participation in Q2 beyond any doubt.
Checkered flag
The chequered flag is out - will we see any further improvements in the final throes of an eventful Q1?
Russell has improved to go 12th fastest, dumping his team-mate Latifi into the drop zone. Norris is now the man on the bubble in 15th place.
Stopwatch
Now Hamilton shoots to the top of the times on a 1m41.545s - that's a bit more like it for the seven-time champion.
Mazepin has done his hopes of progressing to Q2 for the first time no favours with an off at Turn 3 that brings out the yellow flags, but no damage done for the Haas driver.
In their favour is that only three cars remaining in the session can be eliminated in Q1, with Stroll and Giovinazzi already out after their Turn 15 shunts. In the drop zone currently are Russell, Mazepin and Schumacher.
It's a 1m41.161s for Hamilton and a 1m41.701s for Bottas. Will those be enough to mean the Mercedes twins don't need another run?
Now, at last, everybody has a time on the board. Hamilton goes up to fourth, and Bottas in ninth.
Ocon is the only man who has yet to come out of the pits - he's clearly content to play the waiting game for the time being and see what others do.
Raikkonen is in punchy mood coming out of the pits and squeezes past Mazepin into Turn 2, eager not to be behind the Haas on his flying lap. He kicks up the dust and comes perilously close to the wall, much to the 2007 champion's displeasure over the radio...
Breaking news
A message has come up on the timing screens saying that Norris will be investigated after the session for a breach of red flag procedures.
Latifi is clearly keen to make sure he's not left without a time on the board again, as he is the first man in the queue at the pitlane exit ahead of Schumacher.
Green flag
Green light, pitlane is open. Will we get everybody through this time?
The session will restart at 16:29 local time.
Only 10 cars have managed to set a lap thus far, and with two out of the session, that leaves eight under pressure in the remaining nine minutes of Q3. Those are: Hamilton, Bottas, Norris, Ricciardo, Gasly, Tsunoda, Raikkonen and Latifi.
As all that was happening, Verstappen set a 1m41.760s to go fastest, with Perez second on a 1m41.968s. Sainz is third, Leclerc fourth, with Ocon fifth in the Alpine, then Vettel (Aston), Alonso, Russell, Schumacher and Mazepin.
Giovinazzi's crash was almost a carbon copy of Stroll's, carrying too much speed into the apex and finding that there wasn't enough space on the outside of the corner to accommodate him. Crunch.
Oh dear, neither of the Mercedes, AlphaTauris or McLarens have managed to set a lap yet - Norris was approaching the start-finish line when the red flags were waved.
Crash
It's Antonio Giovinazzi, the Alfa Romeo driver has also crashed at Turn 15!
Red flag
Now Verstappen goes quickest, ahead of Perez, and we have ANOTHER red flag.
Leclerc's grip on top spot is brief as team-mate Sainz goes quicker on a 1m42.121s.
Mercedes has indeed gone with softs after running the medium for their aborted earlier effort prior to Stroll's shunt.
Among the drivers to head out is George Russell. Fantastic effort by the Williams mechanics to get his car ready.
Green flag
Green light at the end of the pitlane, we're underway again with just under 14 minutes left on the clock.
The session will restart at 16:15 local time.
The final corner at the Montreal circuit in Canada earned a reputation for claiming world champions after Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve all slammed into 'the wall of champions' in 1999. Can we think of a suitable name befitting Baku Turn 15?
Stroll thus becomes the third victim of Turn 15 this weekend after Leclerc in FP2 and Verstappen in FP3. The Aston driver though has comfortably done the most damage of the three - and his car is stranded on the inside just after Turn 16.
One suspects the only other teams that will be happy about the stoppage are Mercedes - having sent its drivers out on mediums, it has avoided using up a set of softs - and Williams, which now has more time to fix Russell's car after the earlier water pump leak required a change of power unit.
Stopwatch
Leclerc was the only man to cross the line and set a time before the red flag, so his strategy of being the first man in the queue clearly paid off. The time for everyone else to beat is a 1m42.532s.
Crash
Stroll has hit the wall at Turn 15 and plucked the right-front wheel off his Aston Martin.
