Verstappen does manage to get a lap in on those flat-spotted ultrasofts, and he goes fourth.
Another improvement for Bottas, who lowers the gap to Hamilton to four tenths.
At the lower end of the order, Leclerc improves to go 16th in the Sauber.
Verstappen reports that he flat-spotted his tyres with that off, but he says "I think I can do a lap".
That was a nasty one for Verstappen, whose car snapped away from him and spat him to the right into the gravel. Another unexpected blast of power like he had in Bahrain?
Verstappen has been off at the final corner, running through the gravel to rejoin.
"Some spots of rain, only a few drops," says Vandoorne. He's told to stay out.
Ricciardo splits the Mercedes drivers, putting the Red Bull second on mediums.
Bottas has been off at Turn 1, although it's technically called Turn 2. Let's just say it's the really long first corner.
Both Mercedes drivers improve: Hamilton stays fastest with a 1m33.999s, six tenths quicker than Bottas with both on softs.
Ocon goes 10th, slotting in behind team-mate Perez. How Force India would like a ninth and 10th this weekend after a tricky start to the season in F1's super-competitive midfield.
Sainz goes third on softs, Grosjean moves ahead of Hulkenberg for sixth.
Oh, Vandoorne went 11th. We were too busy making a noise in reaction to his moment at the final corner to spot the timing screen updating at first.
Deep breath for Vandoorne has he runs two wheels onto the artificial grass on the outside of the final corner and the McLaren has a massive twitch.
Sixth for Perez. The improvements from him and Alonso have pushed the Ferraris down to seventh and eighth.
Here we go then, more cars head back out onto the track as FP1 part 2 begins properly.
Alonso breaks the silence on track, returning to the action sporting a set of ultrasofts.
