Top 10: 1. Bottas, 2. 00Verstappen, 3. 00Gasly, 4. Leclerc, 5. Hamilton, 6. Norris, 7. Hulkenberg, 8. Giovinazzi, 9. Albon, 10. Ricciardo
Approaching the half-hour mark, and it's pretty quiet - only Sainz and Vettel are on the circuit. So, let's take this opportunity to do a run-down of the order.
There's a hydraulic leak on Grosjean's car, so he's not going out until it's fixed. The Haas squad definitely haven't been in a rich vein of form this weekend...
As we say that, Verstappen's popped his team-mate down a position. So much for that.
Gasly's up to second; after topping FP1, this weekend might be Pierre-shaped rather than pear-shaped for the Red Bull driver.
Bottas goes fastest with a 1m27.031s, as team-mate Hamilton has an off.
Only Vettel and Grosjean are yet to set a time. The latter was in the wars in this morning's session, breaking his front wing in the pits and having to do a lap of shame.
We saw a cloud of dust a little while back at Becketts, and it turns out Vettel had a slight excursion there. Kubica also has a moment, spinning on the exit of Club.
Instead, it's Bottas who now leads the way with a 1m27.191s. Hamilton briefly takes second spot, but Verstappen and Leclerc put him down a few spots.
Home hero Hamilton takes to the circuit, aiming to knock the young whippersnapper Norris off of the top spot. Get off my lawn, etc.
The name's Gasly, Pierre Gasly. Red Bull have some 007 branding this weekend, and Gasly briefly manages to trouble third spot before Giovinazzi takes over. Shaken, not third.
Norris is top now with a 1m28.331s, over a second faster than Kvyat.
Just over half of the field are either on track, or have been on track in this session. A Toro Rosso has just been off of it, presumably to cut some of the grass.
Kvyat's now top with a 1m29.413s, he's certainly Russian around the circuit.
It's a 1m29.595s lap for the Dane, as Norris is just 0.025s slower.
Norris and Kvyat make it five cars on the track, as Magnussen takes the times into the 1m29s.
Pause those musings, as Sainz and Magnussen are now on the circuit.
We believe that Club corner was named after the club sandwich, a famous sandwich featuring three slices of bread. But what was the club sandwich named after?
Now, back to corner names. The Stowe corner is named after Stowe School, and Brooklands is named after the historical Brooklands circuit.
Confusingly enough, there's a separate corner called Chapel, after Becketts, and collectively they're named after the Thomas a Beckett chapel. With us so far?
There's plenty of history behind the corner names at Silverstone. Let's begin with Abbey, named after the remains of Luffield Abbey. Not to be confused with Luffield, named after Luffield Chapel.
Earlier, we spotted McLaren mechanics carrying what seemed to be a new floor through the pitlane, presumably mumbling "to me, to you" in their heads as they avoided the hustle and bustle of the paddock.
So, let's whip through a quick recap of the first session this morning. Grosjean broke a front wing after a pitlane spin, Raikkonen stopped at Luffield, various drivers went off at Brooklands, and a few speckles of rain pelted the Silverstone circuit.
Good afternoon folks! It's just 10 minutes until FP2 gets underway, so stick with us for all the festivities!
That's a wrap of our coverage of the rather eventful FP1 session at the British Grand Prix, which ended with a Red Bull 1-3 spearheaded by Pierre Gasly. You'd be wise to expect a slightly more conventional frontrunning order when F1 gets going again in FP2 in just over two hours' time - but maybe we'll be surprised once more?
British GP: Gasly sets pace in eventful FP1
Final FP1 order: 1 Gasly, 2 Bottas, 3 Verstappen, 4 Hamilton, 5 Leclerc, 6 Vettel, 7 Hulkenberg, 8 Ricciardo, 9 Albon, 10 Sainz, 11 Norris, 12 Perez, 13 Kvyat, 14 Stroll, 15 Giovinazzi, 16 Magnussen, 17 Russell, 18 Raikkonen, 19 Grosjean. 20 Kubica.
The chequered flag is out, and it looks like Pierre Gasly will comfortably top FP1 here. That's a nice pick-me-up for the Frenchman.
Gasly goes top! 1m27.173s from the Frenchman, that's puts him nearly half a second clear of Bottas.
"It's still a very bumpy track," Hamilton says of the re-resurfaced Silverstone.
"What the hell are they doing?" Leclerc asks on the team radio about traffic, before telling himself to "cool down".
Leclerc betters his previous laptime but stays sixth, although this leaves the top six now split by just 0.794s. Albon is best of the rest.
Gasly finally strings a lap together, and it's a really very good one - he moves up to second, just 0.086s slower than Bottas.
