Barcelona F1 test two day three

Bottas is back in again, this time to make a proper stop and there's a good plume of smoke off the rear brakes as he came in.

Mercedes had the fire extinguisher to hand, but it certainly wasn't needed in the end.
And he improves to a 1m17.204s running the C5 tyre. He stays fifth in the times.
Bottas came into the pits, but he's heading straight back out via a practice start.
Ricciardo is going for another strong run, it's a personal best in the first sector once again.
Good to catch a glimpse of the Mercedes at last (the car's oil leak prevented me seeing it running on Tuesday). Looks as though it’s a bit behind the Ferrari as things stand. Decent, as you’d expect, but looks a bit lazier and not as responsive to a change of direction through Turns 7 and 8. That understeer could be the result of running heavier of course, but considering the Ferrari is running a harder tyre at the moment it definitely looks the slightly faster prospect to me right now.
We've reached the halfway point of hour three of the afternoon session. Time for a lap count update.

Leclerc - 120
Russell - 108
Albon - 94
Stroll - 91
Hamilton - 85
Bottas - 76
Hulkenberg - 73
Norris - 72
Gasly - 65
Giovinazzi - 60
Magnussen - 53
Ricciardo - 38
But he falls short of improving again, this time it's a 1m19.550s lap.
Bottas is again looking quick, he's set a personal best in the first sector once more.
We could probably shoehorn in an energy drink joke about those two, but we've missed the boat.
Into the last 90 minutes of running and there's still no Red Bull or Haas on track.
Stroll looks to be on the C1 tyre, but we'll check again when he laps us.
Ricciardo ends that little C4 blast (get it?).

Stroll heads out.
And he does improve, lapping in 1m18.862s. He's in 12th place and over half a second off Magnussen in 11th.

Considering how good Mercedes is looking on the long runs, we doubt it cares too much about the leaderboard.
The Williams looks much better than it did two days ago, and Russell is clearly more confident, but watching Leclerc hunt him down it’s clear the car lacks downforce. The tell tale sign is the big lift Russell needs to get through Campsa. Leclerc is barely bleeding off the throttle by comparison - sounds pretty close to flat out in the Ferrari.
He improves to go up to fifth with a time of 1m17.493s.

Best of all, the timing screen accepts the time.

It's all coming up Ricciardo.
No surprise to see Ricciardo set a personal best in the first sector, then.
Ricciardo is on the C4s again. He's very much on his own in terms of going for short, quick runs.
We've been watching Russell's first 10 laps on the C2 closely to get an idea of how he's finding a long run in the Williams.

His best lap was 1m24.303s which came on his third tour of the circuit and his 'worst' was his last - a 1m25.988s.

That make the gap between the two times 1.685s, and his average 1m25.075.

Suggests there is work to be done to get the Williams operating consistently.
Quite incredibly, Leclerc has lapped at exactly the same time on the next lap.
Bottas and Stroll pit.

Leclerc is now on the C2 after his earlier stop.
1m17.789s for Ricciardo now, who improves his time. He's used the C4 tyre to set that.
