Nasr is also out, with Sauber languishing at the wrong end of the grid. Nasr is 17th, one spot behind Ericsson.
Button comes through to start a timed lap, are his gearbox woes at an end?

He was stuck in second gear on his installation lap earlier.
A lock-up that sent him wide at the hairpin didn't help Maldonado there.
Bottas manages a 1m20.352s, which is nowhere near his previous best of 1m18.669s.
Maldonado can't improve on his eighth placed spot, not with that lap anyway.
It's a poor first sector from Maldonado, his second sector is closer to the pace.
Maldonado is just about to go past the wall of champions and begin a fast lap.

He sits eighth overall at the moment.
Maldonado and Stevens are both out.

Steven's team-mate Roberto Merhi has completed the most laps so far, 14.
There's a distinctive whistle sound in the pits, which means we have some cars back on track...
While some of the teams are just waiting for ideal track conditions before running again, Red Bull is doing extensive work on the front of Ricciardo's car.
Williams tells Bottas the weather forecast looks better for practice two than the rest of this session so the super-soft runs won't be brought forward.
So all hopes of seeing the option tyre appear to be over in this session, with teams up and down the grid confirming that the start of FP2 is set to be dry.
After its Monaco woe, Williams seems relatively upbeat, especially Valtteri Bottas.

The Finn reckons Williams will top Red Bull this weekend, with Massa currently fifth and Bottas ninth.

Ricciardo is the highest Red Bull in 11th, Kvyat is 13th.
Very, very little happening at the moment - the tyre rule change means we no longer have empty first half-hours in practice, but instead there's a little lull between the end of the extra tyre allowance time and proper running resuming.
Temperatures are indeed rising in Montreal, with humidity also at 73%.

Towards the end of the last rush of cars on track, drivers were informing their relative teams that the track was improving, so we should see quicker times when the cars eventually get back out on track.
Massa has managed 186mph through the Sector 3 speed trap. That's the highest of the session so far.

Further down the pits, Button's gearbox problem doesn't seem to be completely repaired as the mechanics work on the McLaren.
Bottas comments that the track was getting better with every lap on his run.
The majority of cars are either in the pits, or coming into the pits this time around.
The sun is brightening the Canadian sky, maybe premature calls of potential rain were just that, premature.
And the rest:

11 Ricciardo
12 Sainz
13 Kvyat
14 Verstappen
15 Alonso
16 Ericsson
17 Nasr
18 Merhi
19 Stevens
20 Button
Now Hamilton takes his turn to cut a corner, this time at Turn 9.
So here's the order with just over 1 hour to go:

1 Hamilton
2 Rosberg
3 Vettel
4 Massa
5 Raikkonen
6 Grosjean
7 Maldonado
8 Hulkenberg
9 Bottas
10 Perez
Bottas runs straight ahead at the final chicane before continuing on his way.
Vettel has jumped into third now, with Grosjean fourth and Raikkonen fifth.

Replays show Vettel's lap hindered by a Manor at the hairpin.
Hamilton doesn't look as quick in the first two sectors of his next lap.
All drivers are still on the soft tyres.

Hamilton does a 1m16.608s to go under the 16s mark.
Massa says he's struggling with braking for Turn 8, so Williams suggests bringing the brake balance forward.
Maldonado has jumped Massa who in turn had just jumped Hulkenberg for fourth. Plenty of swapping and changing going on in the order.
The timing screens are lighting up with every car on track.

Hamilton is currently top by 0.226s ahead of team-mate Rosberg. Bottas has gone third, 1.139s down on Hamilton.
Williams team-mates Bottas and Massa have now set times.

1m21.667s is Bottas' time which is good enough for fifth. Massa went third with a 1m19.740s.

Is it about to rain? All cars are out on track. Including the repaired McLaren of Jenson Button who was stuck in second gear before.
Hamilton is lighting up the timing screens purple, this is set to be quite a bit quicker than his already session-best.

1m17.734s is indeed much quicker. Only 0.5s off last year's session topping time.
1m28.034s is Stevens' Manor team-mate Roberto Merhi's time.

We would have expected Massa - who was also on track - to be significantly quicker than that, but he pits at the end of the lap.
Hulkenberg remarks that Hamilton's early lap is "already very quick".
Ericsson sets a 1m25.083, nearly 5s off Hamilton's benchmark.

Stevens is even slower with a 1m27.834s.
Will Stevens is also out in the Manor. He's behind Ericsson on the track.
Sauber requests that Ericsson does some "high speed weaving" to keep the temperature in his front tyres.
It's a relatively quiet start to the session so far, with Rosberg and Hamilton the only drivers to set times so far.
