A sensational end to qualifying, but will the rain cause an equal amount of chaos in the race? Join us tomorrow for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Button ends up eighth in the McLaren - that's an improvement from one week ago - with Sutil ninth and Perez rounds out the top 10.
Hamilton ends up fourth after initially leading the top 10 pack, with Webber fifth, Rosberg sixth and Raikkonen in seventh spot.
Massa then split the pair of them and it's the Brazilian who starts on the front row of the grid for tomorrow's race.
An amazing finish to qualifying with the pole being held by three drivers in the final moments. Vettel snatches it from Alonso at the death!
Raikkonen is shuffled down to seventh by the late improvements.
Sebastian Vettel claims pole position for tomorrow's Malaysian Grand Prix!
Massa pips his team-mate to the front row in 1m50.587s.
Stopwatch
Vettel takes the provisional pole from Alonso with a time of 1m49.674s.
Stopwatch
That's a stormer from Alonso as he tops the times in 1m50.727s.
Rosberg jumps into third place with a time of 1m52.244s.
Alonso, currently 10th, drives for the line...
Raikkonen goes fourth fastest with his last effort.
Hamilton and Webber cross the line but neither improves...
9 min: That's the flag on Q3, but no where near the final grid yet...
9 min: Raikkonen struggling for grip in the sweeping middle sector and is slower than Hamilton's benchmark.
9 min: So now it's Hamilton at the front with Webber second, Vettel third, Rosberg fourth and Massa fifth with just under one minute to go.
8 min: Raikkonen is now the fastest man in the first sector on his fresh intermediates.
8 min: So that's it on tyre choice, drivers now locked in to their current set of intermediates. At least they will have free tyre choice to start.
Stopwatch
8 min: But here comes Hamilton and he takes over at the front with 1m51.699s.
Stopwatch
8 min: Just over two minutes left and Webber goes fastest with 1m52.244s.
7 min: Raikkonen is told he has just one timed lap to improve on ninth fastest.
7 min: Button and Perez have remained out on now four-lap old intermediates.
7 min: Meantime, Webber continues on out there and is fastest again in the first sector of the lap - 26.531s.
7 min: Massa survives a major moment at Turn 8, holding on to the Ferrari after losing all rear grip. He's currently fourth fastest.
6 min: Vettel comes into the pits and he takes on another set of intermediate tyres.
6 min: Drivers are indeed streaming in to the pits for a fresh set of intermediates.
6 min: Webber is fast on this lap and he joins team-mate Vettel at the front. One-two for Red Bull now after Webber posts 1m53.017s.
5 min: Slicks still look impossible though, so this will be a gamble all around.
5 min: Vettel heads the list from Rosberg, with Massa third, Alonso fourth and Hamilton fifth so far...
5 min: Conditions will improve by the lap, with drivers surely eyeing a switch to fresher rubber before a final attempt.
Stopwatch
5 min: But here comes Vettel and the German is fastest so far with a lap of 1m52.576s.
4 min: Alonso splits the Mercedes pair to go a current third fastest.
Stopwatch
4 min: Rosberg then takes over with a time of 1m53.898s.
Stopwatch
4 min: Sutil gets the chaos going with a time of 1m58.293s.
4 min: So it all comes down to intermediate pace...
3 min: Drivers well into their first timed lap now and the fruit machine fun with the timing monitor is about to begin.
3 min: Track conditions will improve if there is no more rain, but slicks before the end of this segment looks unlikely.
2 min: Not so much rain falling now and it is still sunny, with the track quite dry out of the opening complex.
1 min: Conditions look good for intermediates at this point, with no major areas of standing water but the surface clearly too wet for slicks.
