Lap 53: @OfficialSF1team has officially turned to jelly: "Sorry cannot write anymore. Fingers are trembling too much! Far too nervous! Bring it home, @SChecoPerez!"
Lap 53: Rosberg is closing back up to Button again and looking set to try and retake 14th from the Briton.
Lap 53: Webber sets the fastest lap but it is too late to do much about Hamilton ahead of him.
Lap 52: Schumacher remains in 11th with Vettel making no impression in 12th. Ricciardo in 14th is edging away from Button - the gap is up to 1.4s.
Lap 52: The fight seems to be over from Perez, clocked 4.5 seconds off the lead after that costly mistake a few laps ago.
Lap 52: Vergne in eighth is beginning to struggle. He has Hulkenberg and Maldonado right on his tail.
Lap 52: Raikkonen clocks the fastest lap but is in a lonely fifth place, some 14 seconds behind Webber's Red Bull.
Lap 51: Clouds continue to gather around the circuit, but the shower has not moved any further east than the airport so far - just a couple of miles away.
Lap 50: Five laps remain in an extraordinary Malaysian Grand Prix.
Lap 50: Replays show an error from Perez as he clipped the damp kerb in Turn 14, running wide over the asphalt escape area.
Lap 50: Button in 14th is still on the tail of Ricciardo, but unable to get past the Toro Rosso driver.
Lap 50: Disaster for Perez as he resumes some 5.3 seconds off Alonso but still in second.
Lap 50: But not for much longer as Perez runs wide at Turn 14 and loses a lot of time.
Lap 50: Perez is told by the Sauber team that they would like the points for second place but Perez is surely eying a victory...
Lap 49: Perez is held off by Alonso on his first DRS opportunity but the Mexican is looking a likely victor with such a strong pace advantage.
Lap 49: Schumacher is up to 11th and Vettel rejoined in 12th position, 15 seconds behind the Mercedes.
Lap 49: Vettel's demise promotes Senna to sixth with di Resta seventh, Vergne eighth, Hulkenberg ninth and Maldonado 10th.
Lap 49: Perez tails Alonso through the DRS detection and will surely have a wing opportunity over the line.
Lap 48: Perez is told of the contrasting tyre strategy on the lead Ferrari as he is all over the gearbox of Alonso's machine.
Lap 48: Vettel's problem causes delight down at @Lotus_F1Team: "Fifth place gained for Kimi thanks to a tyre woe for Vettel ahead. We'll take that. #f1 #SepangSundae"
Lap 48: Vettel rejoined the circuit in 11th or 12th place.
Lap 48: Alonso guides his Ferrari through the debris field and Perez is now just 0.9 seconds behind and in DRS range on the leader!
Lap 48: Replays show that Vettel made light contact with Karthikeyan as he moved through to put another lap on the HRT driver, puncturing the left rear.
Lap 48: Vettel guides the Red Bull into the pitlane with the destroyed rear tyre flailing rubber all over the circuit.
Lap 47: Vettel is slowing... the world champion has a puncture and trails back into the pits.
Lap 47: Kobayashi pits the other Sauber one more time and this looks terminal. He drives into the garage.
Lap 47: Perez once again has Alonso's Ferrari in sight with now 1.8 seconds between the Sauber and the lead.
Lap 47: Button has finally passed Rosberg and is up into 14th. His next target is Ricciardo.
Lap 47: Hamilton is now 14.9 seconds off the lead and is still being closed on by the Red Bull pair.
Lap 46: Perez slashes the lead gap to 2.3 seconds with a new fastest lap of 1m41.749s. Sensational stuff from the Sauber driver.
Lap 46: Also, Maldonado is on the tail of Hulkenberg for 10th as a fight for the final point begins. Battles all the way through the field.
Lap 46: Webber sets the fastest lap and is closing slightly on team-mate Vettel.
Lap 45: Perez has opted for the harder slicks for this stint, with Alonso on the softer Pirelli.
Lap 45: Ricciardo in 14th now has the Rosberg versus Button battle right on his gearbox. Three car scrap down the field.
Lap 45: Hamilton is setting a strong pace now in his McLaren but is still clocked 17.2s behind the leader.
Lap 45: Jenson Button said in pre-season testing that he thought the Sauber was fast. How right he was!
Lap 45: Alonso is looking to lap Karthikeyan in the HRT, with Perez continuing to close on the leader.
Lap 44: Senna makes a move on di Resta into Turn 1 and he takes the place, round the outside of the Force India and into seventh.
Lap 44: Perez has very strong pace on his slicks, cutting the gap to Alonso to 5.7 seconds and closing on the leader through every sector.
Lap 44: Meteo France reports that raain is extremely close to the circuit. The problem is that the shower is hovering and hardly moving.
