Alonso makes his way through Turns 7 and 8, as he weaves from side to side to generate heat into his soft tyres.
The field goes under the grandstand towards the end of the lap, to give the spectators an amazing view of the cars passing underneath them.
This circuit has proven hard on brakes in the past, with the heavy fuel load adding to the worry with numerous braking zones and high ambient temperatures.
Alonso makes the turn for home and brings his Ferrari F10 onto the start-finish straight.
The field is keeping to the right on the racing line before peeling off into their grid positions.
Alguersuari is released from the Toro Rosso garage and takes up position at the end of the pitlane.
Massa rolls into position at the rear of the field as we await the lights ...
Lap 1: The five red lights go out and we are racing in Singapore!
Lap 1: Alonso gets off the line well and covers Vettel as they go into Turn 1. Alonso holds the position and leads ahead of Vettel and Hamilton.
Lap 1: Rattling through the Singapore Sling chicane it is Alonso from Vettel, Hamilton, Button and Webber.

Lap 2: Alguersuari got away after the field had taken the start and he is at the rear of the pack.
Lap 2: Alonso is clear off out in front and leads Vettel by a second into lap two.
Lap 2: Massa is straight into the pits to get rid of the soft tyres. He takes on the hard the compound and gets away quickly.
Lap 2: Behind the championship contenders, Rosberg is sixth, with Kubica seventh, Barrichello eighth and Schumacher in ninth position.
Lap 2: Replays of the start show Button got the early advantage over team-mate Hamilton but the latter fought back to retain grid order.
Lap 3: Nick Heidfeld has been into the pits for a new front wing, as we see Tonio Liuzzi crabbing to a halt on the circuit.
Lap 3: Liuzzi is out of the race with clear suspension damage on the Force India.
Lap 3: The safety car has been deployed.
Lap 3: Petrov is 10th, ahead of Kobayashi 11th, Buemi 12th, Hulkenberg 13th and Sutil in 14th. Kovalainen leads the new teams battle for Lotus in 15th.
Lap 3: Liuzzi's car is unable to be retrieved safely by the marshals at Turn 10, causing the deployment of the safety car.
Lap 3: Liuzzi stopped just after the chicane and pulled to the inside of the circuit.
Lap 3: Webber is rolling the dice and pits for Red Bull!
Lap 3: Petrov, Buemi, Hulkenberg, Sutil, Kovalainen, Trulli, Klien, Alguersuari, di Grassi and Senna are all into the pits to change onto the hard tyres.
Lap 3: It's a big gamble for the championship leader, who will come out with 11 cars ahead still needing to stop.
Lap 4: Nick Heidfeld also came into the pits for a second visit.
Lap 4: Replays show that Heidfeld tried to take on two Force Indias with one Sauber. He rear-ended Sutil before being bashed up the back himself by Liuzzi.
Lap 4: Webber will really need another safety car to make this strategy work, as the midfield contenders he is behind are slower than the leaders.
Lap 5: Vettel is reminded on the radio of the car length rule behind the safety car he fell foul of in Hungary.
Lap 5: Behind the top four, the order has changed thanks to the safety car. Rosberg is now fifth, with Kubica sixth and Barrichello seventh.
Lap 5: Schumacher is eighth with Kobayashi ninth and Glock in 10th.
Lap 5: The safety car will pit at the end of this lap.
Lap 6: The safety car comes into the pitlane and we are racing once again.
Lap 6: Webber immediately tries to make a move on Glock to take over that 10th position. The Australian is through and back into the top 10.
Lap 6: Alonso is away unchallenged and leads from Vettel, Hamilton and Button.
Lap 6: Webber is now right on the back of the Barrichello, Schumacher and Kobayashi trio who are battling the seventh.
Lap 7: Jarno Trulli is touring back to the pits with a puncture, relinquishing 18th position.
