Lap 17: Hamilton leads a breathless Canadian Grand Prix from Alonso and Button.
Lap 16: Buemi pits the Toro Rosso from the lead of the race. He rejoins in around eighth position.
Lap 16: Hamilton pulls a fantastic opportunistic move around the outside of Alonso into the final chicane as Buemi pits.
Lap 16: Alonso is all over Buemi as they fight for the lead.
Lap 15: Schumacher pits from ninth. This is the German's second stop. He takes on hard tyres and rejoins the race outside the top ten.
Lap 15: Vettel had a handy lead as the Red Bull gambles on soft tyres!
Lap 15: Petrov pits the Renault as he answers the jump start penalty. He spends a total of 14 seconds in the pitlane. He is out of the top 20.
Lap 15: Buemi is yet to pit and about to take the lead as Vettel pits.
Lap 15: This will be a very long stint for everyone on hard tyres as they won't want to spend many laps on the softs.
Lap 14: Schumacher rejoins after that stop and is immediately in a fight for position with Robert Kubica. They both trip across the grass at Turn 3 but Schumacher holds his position - seventh.
Lap 14: Red Bull react with a stop for Webber.
Lap 14: It's all action in Canada as Schumacher resumes in a fight with Robert Kubica and refuses to cede ground to the Pole.
Lap 14: Surely Red Bull will plan to come in shortly.
Lap 13: Tonio Liuzzi in 22nd has now caught the drivers from the new teams. He will quickly move up to 18th over the course of the next few laps.
Lap 13: Schumacher pits as Mercedes react to the spurt of pace from the earlier stoppers.
Lap 13: Barrichello comes into the pits from 18th place. This is his second stop. He is having the front wing replaced and he roars back out.
Lap 13: Hamilton is right on Alonso's gearbox and is sure to be upset about losing position to the Ferrari at the stop.
Lap 12: Felipe Massa is down in 23rd place but lapping very quickly as Petrov gets a drive through penalty for that jump start.
Lap 12: The pair on the move at the moment are Alonso and Hamilton - setting a 1m20s pace while the Red Bulls, on used tyres, lap in the 1m21s.
Lap 12: Nico Rosberg in 13th is up behind Petrov now. Further bad news for the Russian is that he is being investigated for a jump start.
Lap 11: Kubica has made a stop in his Renault, taking fresh hard rubber.
Lap 11: Heikki Kovalainen has taken advantage of all this chaos and runs in a scarcely believable seventh place at the moment.
Lap 10: Up front, Vettel leads by 1.7 seconds over team-mate Webber.
Lap 10: Alonso is sixth with Hamilton now behind him after those antics at the first stops.
Lap 10: Rosberg now passes the Williams of Barrichello as the Brazilian exits the pits. Rosberg up to 16th place.
Lap 9: The order is Vettel from Webber, Kubica, Schumacher, Buemi with all those drivers yet to stop.
Lap 9: Alguersuari and Barrichello have been into the pits as we see Rosberg pass Bruno Senna for 17th position.
Lap 9: It resolves in the favour of Alonso after some very questionable moves by the former team-mates.
Lap 8: The changes are fantastic and Schumacher is up to a fine fourth position but yet to pit.
Lap 8: Hamilton and Alonso are wheel-to-wheel out of the pits!
Lap 8: Alonso is also in, making it a Red Bull one-two.
Lap 8: Hamilton pits, releasing Vettel in to the lead.
Lap 8: Alonso and Webber are right on the case of this pair now in a four-way scrap for the lead in Canada!
Lap 8: Button, Sutil and Hulkenberg have all been into the pits to change tyres. They resume down in the teens.
Lap 7: Button pits to abandon the soft tyre gamble while Hamilton barely holds on in the lead.
Lap 7: Vettel is sure to send a move in the next few corners.
Lap 7: A safety car would be very helpful for McLaren as Vettel is right with Hamilton.
Lap 7: Rosberg and Trulli pit together and rejoin the race at the rear of the pack.
Lap 7: Vettel is just 0.4 seconds off Hamilton and the leader may struggle to hold of the Red Bull as the McLarens fade on soft rubber.
Lap 6: Felipe Massa sets the fastest lap of the race with 1m20.605s. The Ferrari is flying but he is down in 23rd.
