Lap 39: Hamilton will be 24 points off the title lead if he finishes fourth to Alonso, in mathematical contention but needing a miracle in Abu Dhabi

Lap 38: The midfield squabble continues and the other teams are willing Sutil to pit from his current eighth place.
Lap 38: Webber would be 8 points behind Alonso if the race ends like this, with Vettel 15 points behind the championship leader.
Lap 37: Barrichello takes on super-soft tyres and can run to the finish but 34 laps may be a stretch too far for the option tyre.
Lap 37: Up front, Red Bull continue in a comfortable one-two with plenty for the team to ponder for the second half of the race.
Lap 37: It's all slipping away for Williams after the jubilation of yesterday. Barrichello makes it back into the pits as Patrick Head watches on.
