Lap 33: Hamilton sets the fastest lap at 1m24.869s but he has a lot to do to get the gap he needs.
Lap 33: Nick Heidfeld rejoins from that stop in 11th place and jumps Vettel! The day is getting worse for the Red Bull driver and now he's lost a place in the stops.
Lap 34: The gap between Barrichello and Button has drawn out to 4.9 seconds, which is not good for the championship leader.
Lap 34: The heaviest cars have yet to pit, but are due in soon. Kazuki Nakajima is seventh now, with Trulli tight up behind in eighth. Kovalainen is ninth with Glock 10th, Heidfeld 11th and Vettel down in 12th.
Lap 35: Hamilton pits and Barrichello will easily take the lead.
Lap 35: Hamilton is back out but is behind both Barrichello and Button on the road.
Lap 35: Romain Grosjean pits from 15th place in the Renault. It is a routine stop and the Frenchman rejoins without losing a place. Only Rosberg is behind him.
Lap 35: Can Hamilton do anything to pass the Brawns on the road? That short middle stint was just not enough time to build an advantage over the heavier cars.
Lap 37: Glock's progress in 10th place on that light load has indeed been dented, as now the fight between Nakajima and Trulli enters the pitlane.
Lap 37: Kimi Raikkonen is the current leader ahead of his second stop, with Sutil still on his tail.
Lap 37: Nakajima has a slightly quicker total time in the pitlane, and he maintains track position over Trulli.
Lap 38: Raikkonen and Sutil are pressing on with their low fuel before their second stops.
Lap 38: Sebastien Buemi pits for his one and only stop from 11th place in the Toro Rosso. He falls down the order.
Lap 38: Raikkonen and Sutil pit together.
Lap 39: Its a fumble at Ferrari as Raikkonen struggles to get away but both do resume, behind Hamilton in fourth and fifth.
Lap 39: Replays show Sutil also had a terrible stop as he arrived too quickly in the pits and clattered some of his men.
Lap 40: Rubens Barrichello leads for Brawn and is on course for victory at Monza.
Lap 40: Timo Glock is the only man yet to stop. He is up to eighth, but will be looking to jump Nakajima and Trulli when he comes in shortly.
Lap 40: Glock pits now and we will see if he can gain those two spots.
Lap 40: It's a quick stop from the Toyota crew and this is going to be close as the German rejoins.
Lap 40: Jenson Button is second, with Lewis Hamilton in the final podium place and looking what he can do in the remaining 14 laps.
Lap 41: Glock doesn't make it. He is right behind his team-mate Trulli. Nakajima in 11th is a further second up the road.
Lap 41: Raikkonen and Sutil are fourth and fifth after those messy pitstops, with Alonso and Kovalainen heading up the rest of the one-stopping field.
Lap 42: This is playing out brilliantly for Brawn in the championship race as Red Bull look to be struggling to score today.
Lap 43: Hamilton continues to close in on Button with the gap now down to 2.2 seconds.
Lap 43: In recent laps, Sebastian Vettel has fallen away slightly from Kovalainen and Heidfeld. Vettel continues in ninth, out of the points, having been jumped by the BMW driver during the pitstops.
Lap 43: The world champion could double the damage to Button's points advantage if he manages to pass the Brawn.
Lap 44: Nico Rosberg pits from 16th and last position in the Williams. It's another long stop and he resumes for the run to the flag.
Lap 44: Adrian Sutil is all over the gearbox of Raikkonen's Ferrari. This pair have famously collided twice before to cruelly deny Sutil a points finish.
Lap 45: Sebastian Vettel is pushing to try and stay in touch with Heidfeld, but he runs wide at the second Lesmo curve and is now seven seconds down on quick Nick. If the top eight continue without problems, Vettel will not score this afternoon.
Lap 45: Button sets his best lap of the day, leaving Hamilton 1.9 seconds behind.
Lap 46: Giancarlo Fisichella is 10th and has closed in on Vettel as a result of that incident. The gap between them is 6.3 seconds, and the Italian is given encouragement from race engineer Rob Smedley to close the gap to the Red Bull.
Lap 46: Sutil continues to hound Raikkonen but the Ferrari has KERS to help in the defence of Kimi's fourth place.
Lap 47: The top three remain within six seconds as Hamilton continues a chase of Button for second.
Lap 47: Timo Glock has been off-road at the Roggia chicane while tight up behind team-mate Trulli and Nakajima. Timo dropped back but has quickly caught the other Toyota again. This battle is over 11th, 12th and 13th positions.
Lap 48: The scrap between Button and Hamilton is causing them to close in on Barrichello, with the gap now four seconds.
Lap 49: Despite Rob Smedley's encouragement, Giancarlo Fisichella is unable to close down the gap to Sebastian Vettel in ninth.
Lap 50: There is tension in the garages as a race-long pounding of the kerbs here can take its toll on the transmission.
Lap 51: Barrichello continues to lead as Button holds off Hamilton behind him.
Lap 51: Jarno Trulli has seen enough of Nakajima's rear end and sends a wild move up the inside of the Japanese at Turn 1. The move doesn't come off and Nakajima survives in 11th.
