Video: McLaren's technical upgrade

McLaren introduced a raft of upgrades for the Austrian Grand Prix. CRAIG SCARBOROUGH's videos explain what has changed, and also gives insight into how DRS works

The Austrian Grand Prix did not go according to plan for the McLaren Formula 1 team, but few races have in 2015.

It introduced a major aero update on Fernando Alonso's car for second practice, but its findings were compromised by minimal running, a crash two corners into the grand prix, and the Spaniard not running in the post-event test until Wednesday.

That means finding out the benefits of the upgrades has been delayed. But what did the changes entail? AUTOSPORT's technical contributor CRAIG SCARBOROUGH explains.

McLaren's big upgrade:

How DRS works:

With F1 constantly under fire for 'the show' it puts on, overtaking has rarely been under the sort of surveillance it is in modern times.

Since 2011, one of the main attempts to aid passing has been the introduction of a Drag Reduction System.
