WRC 8 is the first instalment in the franchise in nearly two years, and it boasts over 100 stages from the 14 rallies featured on the WRC calendar, including the introduction of Rally Chile and Rally Turkey.

Kylotonn once again includes several to scale superspecial stages.

In the second of three developer diaries, WRC 8 art director Amaury Beyris explained how the team approaches creating authentic stages that capture the essence of each rally.

"It's a result of a lot of analysis depending on each different country," Beyris said in the video.

"What are the specifics of each country? What's the essence of the rally?

"Knowing that of course, in a real rally, stages can last 30, 40, 50, even 60km.

"On this game, we use much shorter lengths, so the goal is to successfully reproduce the essence of the original rally, whilst making condensed stages over much shorter distances."

One of the game's headline additions is the revamped dynamic weather system that creates a more realistic feel across the different regions of the world represented in the game.

For example, gamers can start a stage in clear dry conditions and be challenged with a sudden downpour at the end of the stage.

They can tackle those stages in any of the WRC, WRC2 or Junior WRC cars as well as a selection of historic cars for the first time in this generation of consoles.

As well as career mode, these cars can be raced in multiplayer against players all across the world.

WRC 8 will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on September 5.
