Proton expects to show stronger pace in Scotland
Proton Motorsports team principal Chris Mellors says he expects to see a significant upturn in the performance of the Satria Neo S2000 on this week's Rally of Scotland, the car's first gravel Intercontinental Rally Challenge outing of the season
Proton drivers Alister McRae and P-G Andersson tested near Callander on Wednesday and collected more than 100 miles of data between them. While the car has competed regularly in the all-gravel FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship, the Satria Neo S2000 has yet to be seen on the IRC dirt since its engine and suspension upgrades.
"I'd like to think the car will be upwards of half a second per kilometre closer to the competition than we were on this event last time," said Mellors. "I'm certainly not about to make any predictions, but the test went very well and the drivers were really happy with the car.
"The APRC has been a good place for us to go and develop the car this year, we feel we have progressed well with it, but Rally of Scotland will provide us with a good indication of where we're at."
Proton has won three from five APRC rounds, while its best IRC result remains McRae's second place on the inaugural Rally of Scotland in 2009.
