Andersson not expecting Sardinia win

P-G Andersson has ruled himself out of winning next week's Rally d'Italia Sardegna, his debut in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge

The Swede will drive a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X prepared by British team JRM on the fifth round of the Eurosport-run series, which starts in Cagliari next Friday night, but he does not expect his Group N machine to be able to match the pace of the frontrunning Super 2000 cars.

"To beat the Super 2000 cars in my Group N car will be too much to ask," said Andersson. "We are 200 kilos heavier, we have to brake earlier for the corners and the brakes are a lower specification so the main target will just be to win Group N."

Andersson's Lancer drive is a one-off, but the double Junior World Rally champion admitted he was looking forward to the challenge.

"I like the event because you have a mix of fast and narrow tracks, it's interesting," said Andersson, who has started the Sardinian event five times when it was a round of the World Rally Championship, finishing every time and twice inside the top 10.
