Cave targets top 10 finish in Italy
British teenager Tom Cave has targeted a top 10 finish in June's Italian Interncontinental Rally Challenge round, Rally d'Italia, his first outing in a Proton Satria Neo S2000
Eighteen-year-old Cave, who drove a Ford Fiesta on the season-opening Monte Carlo rally, tested a Proton for the first time at Sweet Lamb in mid-Wales last week.
Cave, who will drive a private Proton on selected IRC rounds this season, said: "It was great to get in the car, although with ice in the morning and snow in the afternoon, the conditions weren't great. I think I need a bit more seat time, but it would be nice to look for a top-10 in Sardinia."
Proton team principal Chris Mellors was impressed with Cave, adding: "Tom came under strict instructions to keep the car on the road - and he ended up doing some testing for us! He certainly didn't disgrace himself and I was very pleasantly surprised with the pace he showed. His father was concerned about the jump to this car, but he needn't have been."
Cave collects his car late next month and is hoping to contest the BRC opener, the Bulldog International Rally North Wales at the end of the month.
