Q & A with Keith Cronin

Q. Could you have won Rally of Scotland if you'd stayed in your Group N Mitsubishi?

Keith Cronin: Having watched the Group N cars against the S2000, I don't think the Mitsubishi would have the legs of the S2000s, so it would have been very difficult to win in Scotland in my car. I've been wanting to get in a S2000 car for a long time, so the sooner the better for me.

Q: What's the plan for next year?

KC: I want to take a look at the Super 2000 World Cup and IRC. Maybe I could do some rounds of both of them, it all depends on what we can do to secure sponsorship over the winter.

Q: What would be a good result for you in Scotland?

KC: I don't know what a realistic result will be for me. I'll have a better idea when I've tested the car, when I know a bit more about how it feels. Having driven a car with a turbo for a while, it's going to be really alien to get into a car without a turbo. I'm used to going up the gears and carrying the speed through the corners, but with the Abarth you have to come down the gears to go faster - I think that'll take some time to get used to. By the end of the event, I hope we can be setting some quick times, but at the start, I'm not going to be paying much attention to the others; there's no point putting myself under any pressure.

Q: How well do you know the stages on the Rally of Scotland?

KC: I have never been to those stages before, so that's another unknown. That's not so important really. As long as you get a good recce and have a good set of notes, everything will be fine.
