Eurosport happy with Monte figures
Eurosport has revealed figures of seven million television viewers for the Monte Carlo Rally last week, the opening round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge
The French TV company televised seven of the 14 stages live, including uninterrupted coverage from the final four Col de Turini stages.
The Monte Carlo Rally has benefited from live television coverage before, but only on the final superspecial stage that was held around Monaco's Grand Prix circuit in recent years.
Geraldine Filiol, the Managing Director of Eurosport Events - which promotes the IRC - said: "We are delighted that over seven million television viewers caught up with the live action on Eurosport. These unprecedented figures reinforce the appeal of the IRC to a global television audience.
"It also confirms the value of the IRC, which intends to bring rallying closer to the fans through innovative and dynamic television coverage. We look forward to continuing our development and innovative approach over the rest of the season."
Eurosport has stated that it will broadcast live from the stages on three further IRC rallies, including the season finale in Scotland in November.
