Henk Lategan was on course to win Stage 7 and take the overall lead of the 2026 Dakar Rally before late mechanical drama denied his charge.
The Toyota driver led in the closing kilometres until he suffered a broken damper which needed replacing and cost a vital 10 minutes. That handed the stage victory to Ford’s Mattias Ekstrom, while Nasser Al-Attiyah has retained his overall lead for Dacia.
