Round-up: ABG targets Radermecker…
Former Volvo and Vauxhall works BTCC driver Vincent Radermecker could drive ABG Motorsport's second Lexus IS200 later this season.
ABG boss Tim Blake has contacted the Belgian and believes a limited late-season programme is viable.
"I've phoned him and he's keen," said Blake. "He would fit the bill, perfectly."
Blake is now trying to arrange a test day for Radermecker, who should be available for most of the remaining BTCC meetings apart from the final rounds at Brands Hatch, which clashes with a Porsche Supercup race which he is committed to. The second IS200 is still in-build and will definitely not be ready before rounds 19 and 20 at Oulton Park.
Alfa Romeo BTC Touring team JS Motorsport has split with engine builder Swindon Race Engines and is now assembling its own motors.
Team manager and driver Tim Harvey, whose new JSM-built engine failed after just a few laps of free practice at Snetterton today, commented: "We've sourced some parts from Italy and built two engines ourselves with new blocks.
"We only had a very limited amount of time on the dyno to set up the mapping and mine was slightly wrong and detonated. It's not a major problem, but we can't fix it here. We haven't had any of the block liner problems that we've had all year," he added.
Barwell Motorsport boss Mark Lemmer has returned to the BTCC fray as a driver, but with Synchro Motorsport rather than his own Barwell team.
Lemmer replaces regular Synchro driver Dave Allan who will be out of the country on business for tonight's Snetterton night races and the following two meetings at Croft and Oulton Park.
Coincidentally, a new rule introduced by BTCC organiser TOCA means that Lemmer would not have been able to score points with Barwell as it has already changed the driver in its second Accord once.
