BMW considers GP entry
BMW European Touring Car Championship star Andy Priaulx's chances of racing in the BTCC's non-championship British Grand Prix support race in July are still in the balance
The Guernseyman was a race-winner in the BTCC with Honda in 2002, before joining BMW in Europe last year. His ETCC team - BMW Team Great Britain - is evaluating the BTCC rules which try to equalise performance of cars built to ETCC and BTCC technical regulations.
Priaulx was at the last round of the BTCC at Silverstone in his role as advisor to BMW's scholars in its junior single-seater series Formula BMW which races on the BTCC bill, but so was his ETCC team boss Bart Mampaey, whose task was to take a close look at the BTCC and meet series boss Alan Gow.
BMW UK motorsport manager Peter Walker summed up the current position: "We are still considering doing Silverstone," he said, "as well as looking at something in the BTCC in 2005. We need all the information before making a decision in conjunction with BMW in Germany."
