Alonso, Raikkonen battle for award
World Champion Fernando Alonso and title runner-up Kimi Raikkonen are almost certain to lock horns for the final time this season tonight in the fight for the prestigious International Racing Driver of the Year trophy at the Autosport Awards
Autosport Awards
The Autosport Awards are a series of awards presented by motor racing magazine Autosport to drivers that have achieved significant milestones each season. Some of the presentations are selected by the general public via a reader's poll.
The annual star-studded occasion takes place this evening at London's Grosvenor House Hotel and it is set once again to be a highlight of motor racing's social calendar.
But the outcome of this contest will be out of the two Formula One front-runners' hands as the winner of this trophy, and all the other awards up for grabs, have been decided by the readers of Autosport and autosport.com
Alonso's Renault team are also up for the Racing Car of the Year Award, and will most likely be in competition with McLaren, while Jenson Button will be up against World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx and Indy Racing League champion Dan Wheldon for the British Competition Driver Award.
Other Awards include British Club Driver, National Rally Driver, autosport.com's Rookie of the Year, Rally Car and International Rally Driver.
But the night is not just about the current stars of the sport, because there will once again be the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award for young drivers.
The nominees are Formula Renault UK champion Oliver Jarvis and frontrunner James Jakes, Formula BMW UK runner-up Sam Bird, Formula Ford Festival winner Duncan Tappy, Formula Palmer Audi champion Joe Tandy and US Formula Ford 2000 runner-up Joey Foster.
