F1 Hungarian GP Live Commentary and Updates - FP3 & Qualifying

Saturday's action from the 11th round of the 2023 Formula 1 season

Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing RB19

F1 begins its final double-header before the summer break at the Hungaroring which hosts the 11th round of the 2023 season, with Red Bull still unbeaten this year.

Max Verstappen is on a run of six consecutive wins, and eight in total this season, to push out his F1 world championship lead to 99 points over team-mate Sergio Perez.

But the big talking point coming into this weekend has been the return of Daniel Ricciardo who has replaced Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri for the rest of the season.

Friday's running was topped by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, with no Red Bulls in the top 10 at the end of a day complicated by a lack of dry laps.

Saturday's action begins at 11:30am BST with FP3, with qualifying taking place at 3pm BST.

Good morning and welcome to live coverage of the F1 Hungarian GP Saturday. FP3 is coming your way at 11:30am BST!
Rain interrupted FP1 on Friday, but conditions are almost perfect for this morning's hour-long session.
Friday's running was also impacted by F1's tyre experiment for this weekend, which has seen the number of sets reduced from 13 to 11 per driver and mandated compounds for Q1, Q2 and Q3 in qualifying.
Ferrari and Charles Leclerc led the way on Friday after FP2, while Red Bull didn't make it into the top 10 - though that isn't going to be representative of what we will likely see today.
Just 10 minutes until FP3 goes green. Plenty of time to fix yourself of coffee or a brew and get settled in.
Mercedes endured a tough Friday, with Lewis Hamilton saying the car felt "at its worst". This next hour will be quite important for the team.
Daniel Ricciardo is first out in his AlphaTauri on medium rubber as he continues to readjust to F1 life.
But that is instantly bettered by Magnussen in the Haas with a 1m20.454.
Sergio Perez now goes top in the Red Bull with a 1m18.558s.
Swap one Red Bull for the other, as Verstappen takes over with a 1m18.478s.
We've got seven times on the board so far, Verstappen leading Perez, with Albon about to make that eight.
Sainz has a wild slide going through Turn 3, complaining that he's "struggling with wind".

Hard relate, Carlos...
Perez complains to his team that "the tyres are not cooling down". He's told that he'll just have to struggle through this today.
We're seeing really slow build-up laps so far, suggesting drivers are quite worried about how much rubber is dropping off over the course of a flying lap.
Russell completes a flying lap to go fifth. Verstappen still top with a 1m18.478s, set on medium rubber.
Not a great sign for Mercedes, with Russell almost a second down on the Red Bulls on the same tyre.
We still haven't had any laps from Bottas, Zhou, Piastri, Norris and Hulkenberg.
Piastri jumps up to third on soft rubber, though 0.471s down despite going purple in sector two.
Norris moves to fourth on his soft tyre lap, 0.583s down on Verstappen.
Zhou puts in a good lap on the soft rubber to go second to split the Red Bulls.
Disappointing lap for Alonso on the soft tyre, who can only manage 10th in his Aston Martin.
With just under 35 minutes to go, everyone has now put in a time. Red Bull teams bookend the field, with Verstappen fastest and Ricciardo last, 6.3s the spread thus far.
Good lap from Albon on the softs, who goes sixth behind Perez.
Verstappen is asking if "everything is ok with the rear, [it's] a bit weird". That comes a lap after he had a snap on the way into Turn 2.
Alonso begins a second run on soft rubber and is a tenth down after the first sector.
And it was a good lap for Alonso, who goes top with a 1m18.350s!
It's 20 years ago since Alonso scored his first grand prix victory in Hungary. For context, F3 sprint race winner from today Gabriele Mini was born in 2005.
Norris now goes top with a 1m18.082s on medium tyres.
Hard to read into the true pecking order at the moment given the running plans forced by the new tyre allocation for the weekend. Track is also evolving.
The Mercedes duo fire in laps on the soft rubber, with Hamilton going top on a 1m17.811s as Russell slots into fourth.
Verstappen only second on his first soft tyre flying lap, 0.250s adrift.
Verstappen says there's "no f****** grip". Not a bad lap in that respect, then.
Only sixth for Leclerc on the soft tyres and Sainz slots into seventh. Not a great outlook for Ferrari going into qualifying.
Magnussen had a blistering sector one, setting the best time, but could only finish 15th as Hulkenberg goes fourth.
