Let's see what happens with that P5 battle because it will influence when the leaders pit.
Hadjar and Gasly now into the pits at the end of lap 18.
Lawson now pits at the end of lap 19. Only Albon to go now but he's on mediums.
So, a fascinating picture developing – if Norris were to pit now, he would come out behind Verstappen.
Actually it would be marginal in terms of soming out behind hard-shod Alonso. Little wonder Norris is now being told it's either "Plan B or Plan D".
Meanwhile Piastri is being told the penalty means he's on PLan C.
Antonelli pits to get off the softs at the end of lap 21. But that has put him out in P11 between Stroll and Bearman. Stroll yet to pit since he's running on hards.
Verstappen has passed Albon so he's currently running P4 on track, 19.373s behind Norris. There is a seven-lap offset in their respective tyre lives.
Looking like McLaren has no option but to extend the opening stint for its drivers – those who started on softs found they gave up much earlier than expected.
Take that! Antonelli blitzes by Stroll then makes short work of Colapinto. This is exactly what he needs to do to stay in this race. Currently P9 on track with Tsunoda ahead.
Yes, Norris being told that the hard isn't worth bothering with and the soft has a short shelf life, similar performance to yesterday – where everyone was complaining about lack of grip.
Tsunoda has pitted again so Antonelli now has Alonso to deal with – past him into Turn 1 at the beginning of lap 26.
In terms of lap time, Verstappen is in the same ballpark as Norris and Piastri's pace.
Tsunoda pinged for failing to serve his 10-second penalty properly at his pitstop. Someone must have had itchy fingers and touched the car too soon.
Antonelli now P7 with Hulkenberg just under a second ahead.
Difficult to run the rule over Antonelli's pace on those new tyres because he's been dealing with traffic, but he's been up to a second faster than the McLarens in those odd moments where he gets clear(ish) air.
Now he passes Hulkenberg into Turn 1 at the beginning of lap 29.
Next time around, Antonelli breezes past Albon along the main straight to annexe P5. He's 7.2s off Verstappen.
Norris into the pits – soft tyres – at the end of lap 30.
As expected, that feed him out on track behind Verstappen – 1.7s to be exact.
When Piastri pits, our maths suggests he will feed out between Bearman and Hadjar in P8. That will be tricky because they pitted for mediums 14 laps ago.
As we begin lap 33, Norris passes Verstappen under DRS on the main straight and goes ahead into Turn 1.
So Piastri now P1 on track by 8.9s from Russell, with Norris 4.1s further adrift.
At the start of lap 34, Hulkenberg launches ambitiously around the outside of Albon into Turn 1 – and makes it stick! P6. His mediums have been on since the start but were new, while Albon's set was used.
End of lap 34, Verstappen back into the pits – new mediums. That is likely his final stop since he's just done 27 laps on the previous set of mediums, but he's going to have to be nice to them to go another 36 laps...
Russell also pitted at the same time and took on a new set of softs. Hulkenberg now pitting at the end of his 36th lap.
Albon pitted a lap earlier for used softs.
Tsunoda handed another 10s penatly for failing to serve his previous one properly.
Piastri told that if he pits now he'll emerge in a DRS train – that means Verstappen-Gasly-Lawson we think.
Well Piastri is pitting anyway so let's see. Soft tyres...
Yes, we can do the I-was-right dance. Piastri emerges in P8 behind Lawson.
Hamilton told to pit to retire his car.
So the panoply of strategies is muddling the picture somewhat, but currently we have Norris in P1 on used softs, 7.6s ahead of Antonelli on 'new' mediums, 6.7s ahead of Russell on used softs. Bearman 4.3s behind Russell but on a different strategy – he stopped 23 laps ago so will doubtless visit the pits soon.
Verstappen is 2.1s behind Bearman, and now 5.1s ahead of Piastri, who has passed Lawson. Gasly obligingly pitted a lap ago.
Bearman now pits at the end of lap 42.
Piastri currently lapping a second faster than Norris, both on used softs.
We can't see Norris going to the end on those softs. We could be wrong. In which case, the 18.3s margin to Verstappen will be giving the McLaren pitwall pause for thought.
If Norris pits then he will have to pass Verstappen on track (assuming Max won't pit again).
Bearman had a slow stop which put him out behind Alonso on track but he's just passed Fernando into Turn 1 to claim P10.
Interestingly, Franco Colapinto has just set the fastest lap of the race – he pitted for mediums two laps ago, at the end of lap 45.
Synchro overtaking at the start of lap 47 as Hulkenberg overtakes Ocon for P7 into Turn 1; behind them, Bearman relieves Albon of P9.
At the end of lap 47 Antonelli makes what will be his final stop. Used medium. He emerges P6, 2s behind Liam Lawson.
Next time around Russell pits for used mediums.
While this goes on, a proper ding-dong battle between Bearman and Hulkenberg: Nico resists a lunge up the inside into Turn 1, but Bearman collects the goods into Turn 4.
Norris into the pits at the end of lap 50. He takes on a used set of mediums.
As expected, he emerges behind Verstappen – and team-mate Piastri! Oh the conversations...
