This was a weekend of controversy, upset, and breathtaking action throughout worldwide motorsport, but in the UK in particular - as Britain's round of the GT1 World Championship saw Lucas Luhr and Michael Krumm win the Tourist Trophy in a Silverstone race that saw the top three cars finish absolutely nose to tail after some epic racing to the flag. But the great lead dice was overshadowed by a massive and contentious crash involving Richard Westbrook and Stefan Mucke.
There were further fireworks in a wet and spectacular British Touring Car Championship meeting at Oulton Park, where the potentially dominant Hondas lost a race two one-two when Matt Neal took out team-mate Gordon Shedden at the final corner. Jason Plato picked up that win, but it did nothing to ease his fury at what he saw as a lack of performance parity between the engine types.
Elsewhere in the tin-top world, Martin Tomczyk provided an upset by winning the DTM round at the reopened Spielberg circuit in Austria. The World Touring Car Championship was making a highly successful Hungaroring debut in front of a huge crowd, who saw championship leader Rob Huff pull off some successful damage limitation after a disastrous qualifying, but his Chevrolet team-mates Alain Menu and Yvan Muller take the wins.
The Catalunya MotoGP race was relatively flat in comparison - Casey Stoner taking a dominant win that brought him very close to runner-up Jorge Lorenzo's points lead.
