Dolby claims Assen super final win

England's Craig Dolby won the €100,000 super final in the opening round of Superleague Formula 2011 at Assen on Sunday, passing the Australia entry of John Martin to claim victory.
Dolby, starting fourth on the grid, jumped up to second at the start, with Martin leaping into the lead as poleman Duncan Tappy (Japan) and Yelmer Buurman (Netherlands/PSV) made poor getaways.
Dolby used his push-to-pass system to outdrag Martin on the run to Turn 1 at the start of lap two, and Martin was further demoted by Antonio Pizzonia (Brazil) on the same lap. Neel Jani (Belgium/Anderlecht) also tried to nip past Martin, but they made contact and Jani was sent into the gravel.
Dolby held a 1.7-second lead over Pizzonia at half distance, but a scrappy third lap put Pizzonia right on his tail. Pizzonia lunged alongside at one point on the next tour, but Dolby held him off to win by 0.171s at the chequered flag.
"I try my best until the chequered flag, that one was awesome," said Dolby. "That race was me all over. You don't know how much this win means to me."
Buurman passed Martin on the final lap to finish fourth.
