Weekend review and results round-up
Canada's return to the Formula 1 calendar was always tipped to bring action and drama, and that's exactly what the field provided - not even requiring the circuit's famous safety car interludes and big impacts to create a thriller
Instead it was tyres, their fragility in some conditions, and the big difference between the two compounds that generated the action, and ultimately a one-two for McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, even though Red Bull's more cautious strategy had perhaps looked wiser on paper given the level of tyre degradation in practice.
Red Bull's eventual slump to fourth and fifth was a low-key end to a weekend that began with the squad still right in the spotlight as the fall-out from Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber's Istanbul tangle dominated the Montreal build-up.
F1 and NASCAR aside, the motorsport world took a break this weekend to give due precedence to the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours, in which Peugeot appeared to be in complete control until its race fell apart in a string of reliability problems, allowing Audi to grab its most unlikely win yet.
