Hockenheim DTM: Jamie Green puts Audi on pole for Saturday race
Jamie Green will start the DTM's first Saturday race since 2002 from pole position, as Audi dominated another session at Hockenheim
With drivers having an allocation of four sets of tyres to cover the weekend's pair of qualifying sessions and races, Green set his fastest lap in the opening minutes of the 20-minute session.
Green: Only DTM title matters now
His 1m33.044s was four tenths clear of the pack after the initial runs and eventually good enough to secure his first pole position since September 2013 by 0.116 seconds.
In addition to its 75th DTM pole, Audi finished qualifying with six drivers in the top 10, but Pascal Wehrlein and Augusto Farfus ensured all three brands were represented inside the top three.
OPINION: Why the new DTM format should pay off
Wehrlein jumped up to second with seven minutes remaining to lead the Mercedes charge, while BMW entered the final minute with its top driver in just 13th place.
Farfus changed that when he leapt to third, before stopping on track shortly afterwards.
A mere 0.048s split Farfus, practice pacesetter Edoardo Mortara, Paul di Resta, Mike Rockenfeller, Adrien Tambay and Tom Blomqvist between third and ninth.
Rockenfeller and Tambay set identical times while Blomqvist was the best of the rookies.
In a field covered by 1.124s, Mercedes newcomers Maximilian Gotz and Lucas Auer were 21st and 24th respectively.
