Coloni signs Stefano Coletti and Fabio Onidi for 2012 GP2 campaign
Scuderia Coloni has signed Stefano Coletti and Fabio Onidi for the 2012 GP2 season, the team has announced
Race winner Coletti moves across from fellow Italian team Trident for what will be his second full season in the category. The Monegasque finished 11th in the standings last year, but his season was curtailed by a back injury sustained in a crash at Spa.
Team boss Paolo Coloni hinted in November that Coletti was his prime target to lead the team, which starred in the second half of 2011 with veteran Luca Filippi.
"We started talking immediately after the end of the 2011 championship and Coloni made me understand that I was an important part of their project," said Coletti.
"Right from the first test I did with them I had an excellent feeling. 2012 will be a key year in my career, so I did put a lot of thought into this choice."
Coloni added that given the team's strong end to last season and impressive pace in winter testing, high targets will be set for the upcoming season.
"I have many reasons to be happy - we are heading towards the season with a promising and competitive line-up," said the Italian.
"With such premises our expectations are obviously high, we know that we have what it takes to be successful and we aim to show that right from the start."
AutoGP race winner Onidi is a surprise addition to Coloni's line-up, as Italian teenager Kevin Ceccon was expected to fill the team's second seat after making 10 starts with the team last year.
