Carlos Huertas beats Kevin Magnussen to victory in British Formula 3 finale at Silverstone

Carlos Huertas completed his third season of British Formula 3 by winning the last race of the year at Silverstone this afternoon

The Colombian outdragged poleman Kevin Magnussen at the start and held his nerve as they swept through Copse for the first time.

Huertas traded tenths with his Danish Carlin team-mate throughout the rest of the 20-lap race and held Magnussen at bay to win by just half a second.

Rupert Svendsen-Cook (Carlin) made up for brake problems yesterday to complete the podium. After a steady start, he benefited when champion elect team-mate Felipe Nasr tumbled down the order on the opening lap before colliding with Hitech's Max Snegirev exiting the Vale.

Svendsen-Cook then jumped fast-starting Fortec man Lucas Foresti with a better run through Club onto the new pits straight on lap five, before completing the pass as they swept through Abbey.

Foresti, carrying some front wing endplate damage from the early fracas, ran wide exiting The Loop on the next lap and dropped to sixth, behind GP3 interloper Mitch Evans (Double R Racing), and fast-starting Fortec team-mate Will Buller.

Foresti was chased home by 2008 McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner Alexander Sims (Motopark), Hitech's Pietro Fantin and Carlin's Jazeman Jaafar.

Sims made another strong start from row six of the grid and managed to jump Fantin for seventh when the Brazilian ran wide exiting Chapel onto the Hanger Straight on lap seven.

Double R's Scott Pye suffered a poor opening lap and fell from fifth on the grid to the back end of the top 10. The Australian was one of four drivers that had to serve a drive-through penalty for disrespecting the track limits, which dropped him to 17th and handed the final point to Sino Vision's Hywel Lloyd.
