Mirko Bortolotti dominates Formula 2 qualifying at the Nurburgring
Mirko Bortolotti blitzed his Formula 2 opposition to claim pole position for the first of two races at the Nurburgring this weekend
The 2008 Italian Formula 3 champion lapped the GP circuit in a 1m48.288s best to take the top spot. That left him a comfortable 0.328 seconds clear of nearest challenger Mihai Marinescu.
"We made some changes overnight and did a good job," said Bortolotti. "Yesterday was my first time on this track, but I felt quite comfortable and I'm quite happy with my lap. I'm looking forward to the race."
Spa winner Will Bratt will line up alongside fellow Briton Alex Brundle on the second row, with Spaniard Ramon Pineiro fifth and the last of the runners to lap below 1m49s.
A last-gasp improvement from Jack Clarke elevated the Briton into the top six, ahead of title contenders Christopher Zanella and Miki Monras.
Formula Renault UK convert Jordan King and early session pacesetter Mikkel Mac rounded out a top 10 covered by 1.128s.
