Weekend review and results round-up

Bruno Spengler wins at HockenheimAnother major international championship kicked off for 2011 this weekend with the latest DTM title battle getting underway at Hockenheim.

It was Bruno Spengler who took the early advantage as Mercedes' other two likely title contenders Jamie Green and Gary Paffett blew their chances in qualifying, but HWA's fourth driver Ralf Schumacher hinted that he might join the elite this year by taking his maiden DTM podium.

Marco Simoncelli was the big story going into MotoGP's Portuguese race, having dominated practice, come very close to pole before crashing and then bickered with Jorge Lorenzo in a press conference. But with the Gresini Honda rider falling again just half a lap into the event, it became an all-Spanish battle between Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa, ultimately won by the latter.

In American racing, Kyle Busch notched up his second NASCAR Sprint Cup race win of the year with a commanding performance at Richmond. But we'll have to wait another day to find out who will take the IndyCar spoils in Sao Paulo, where downpours forced the race to be postponed.

Teams with plenty to celebrate elsewhere included Carlin - which took one-twos in both Spa Formula Renault 3.5 races - and the Honda Racing British Touring Car squad, which achieved the same result in Thruxton's first two races before Jason Plato snatched race three for Chevrolet.
