Peugeot satisfied with reliability
Peugeot team boss Olivier Quesnel said he was satisfied that the new 908s ran trouble-free in the Sebring 12 Hours, even though the race victory went to ORECA's older-specification car
The factory #7 and #8 Peugeots had looked the most likely winners for much of the event, and even after the #7 car dropped out of contention when Marc Gene collided with Dindo Capello's Audi, the #8 continued to lead the race. A stop to change damaged front bodywork in the closing hours ultimately left it in third behind ORECA and the Highcroft HPD.
But Quesnel remained content that the new car had not run into any technical problems on its racing debut.
"More than the actual result, we're really pleased to have both cars complete the race," he said. "We didn't have any technical problems, which is extremely satisfying for this new car's first race.
"Our driver teams performed well, the cars were reliable and the entire Team Peugeot Total reacted perfectly when faced with the various situations that arose during the 12 hours of racing."
He said Peugeot had always regarded Sebring mainly as a step towards the Le Mans 24 Hours and the season-long Intercontinental Le Mans Cup title race.
"We came here to prepare for Le Mans, and we have done just that," Quesnel said. "We have also picked up a lot of points for the ILMC and head the constructors' standings."
Quesnel also paid tribute to Peugeot's customer team ORECA for its achievement in winning the race with the older car.
"Our heartfelt congratulations go to Team Oreca on their win with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP," he said. "They produced a faultless performance and proved once again the efficiency and reliability of this car. It's a Peugeot that has won again today."
