Hylkema gets T-Sport rookie seat

Bart Hylkema will graduate to the British Formula 3 National Class this season with title-winning squad T-Sport

The 21-year-old Dutchman moves up from the Formula Renault Eurocup, where he finished sixth last season as a Koiranen Bros team-mate to champion Kevin Korjus.

Hylkema, whose brother Thomas has spent the past three seasons racing in the Formula Renault UK championship, is switching to British F3 to take advantage of the extensive testing mileage on offer in the series.

He hopes to follow new team-mate Menasheh Idafar by taking the National Class title, which this year will be renamed the 'Rookie Cup', before graduating to the main championship the following season. He is the first driver to confirm a Rookie Cup programme for 2011.

"It's great to join forces with T-Sport for British F3," said Hylkema. "The work I've done so far with the team has been very productive and I feel confident we can achieve great results together.

"I've always rated British F3 as the strongest [series] of its kind and I look forward being part of it this year."

Hylkema will test with his new team at Pembrey in a month's time. Team boss Russell Eacott is looking forward to bringing his new charge up to speed.

"We're very happy that Bart has joined us to contest the new Rookie Cup," said Eacott. "Like Menasheh before him, Bart is going to have a development season so he is ready for the International Class next year.

"The Rookie Cup is all about learning the intricacies of F3 at a fraction of the cost, before stepping up to the top class and being competitive."
