Signature signs Abt for Euro Series
Formula 3 Euro Series championship-winning team Signature has made Daniel Abt its first signing for 2011
The 17-year-old son of Abt Sportsline DTM team boss Hans-Jurgen Abt was runner-up in German F3 this year. He will also join Signature for the Macau Grand Prix and Korea Super Prix next month.
"I'm truly looking forward to this new challenge," said the German. "For several years I have followed the F3 Euro Series in the DTM support programme and I'm proud of being one of the drivers on its grid next year."
Prior to F3, Abt raced in the Volkswagen-backed German ADAC Formula Masters series, which led to interest in him from the manufacturer.
Volkswagen motorsport boss Kris Nissen added: "By winning the 2009 ADAC Formula Masters title and finishing runner-up in German F3 this year, Daniel has proven to be one of Germany's fastest young guns.
"He is ready to make the next step and we are delighted that he remains a member of the Volkswagen family."
Abt is set to be joined on the 2011 grid by Formula BMW and Formula Abarth racer Hannes van Asseldonk. The 18-year-old will race for Prema Powerteam in Korea next month, and is likely to remain with the team for next season.
