Stoneman on pole again at Brno

Dean Stoneman secured back-to-back Formula 2 pole positions at Brno this weekend with a laptime none of his rivals could touch on Sunday morning

The Briton, who took the lead of the championship after his second place finish on Saturday, was first to leave the pits for his final run and landed an early blow with his 1m45.6s.

After setting his best lap, he returned to the pits for the final 10 minutes to see his effort prove good enough for pole.

"I wasn't going to do the strategy that I did," Stoneman said. "But I had nothing to lose, so I just went out there and went for it early."

Title rival Jolyon Palmer came closest but was more than four tenths of a second adrift of Stoneman, and just 0.018s quicker than third-placed Philipp Eng.

Kazim Vasiliauskas will complete the second row, ahead of race one winner Nicola de Marco and podium finisher Sergei Afanasiev.

Benjamins Lariche and Bailly, Will Bratt and Mihai Marinescu complete the top 10.
