McNish tops wet warm-up

Allan McNish took his Audi to the top of the timesheets in this morning's warm-up for the Le Mans 24 Hours

Audi set the pace early on in the wet session, led by Timo Bernhard in the number 9 Audi.

Peugeot, which has dominated the build up to the race, then got into its stride. Frank Montagny went quickest in the number 2 Peugeot, before Marc Gene recorded 3m52.495s in the number 1 machine.

That time stood until the closing minutes, when McNish charged to clock two laps quick enough for the fastest time, the best being 3m51.404s.

Neel Jani topped the petrol runners in Rebellion's Lola, his late 4m01.952 being enough for eighth. Darren Turner's works Aston Martin was the only other petrol car in the top 10.

Former Le Mans winner Marco Werner set the pace in LMP2 with Highcroft Racing's HPD, 12 seconds ahead of the RML Lola of Tommy Erdos in second.

The Marc VDS Ford GT was the only GT1 machine to outpace the fastest GT2 cars. A hard-trying Bas Leinders set a time of 4m28.942s to beat Rahel Frey's Matech version by 4.4sec.

Ex-Canadian Grand Prix winner Jean Alesi was fastest in GT2 with his number 95 AF Corse Ferrari, while Porsche had its best showing of its Le Mans build up with second for Jorg Bergmeister in the number 80 Flying Lizards car.
