Eng wins second Silverstone race
Philipp Eng scored his second Formula 2 victory in today's second race of the Silverstone opener
The Austrian held off race one winner Jolyon Palmer in the closing stages after making a strong start from and leading confidently in the early stages.
Dean Stoneman looked set to challenge Eng for the win, but slowed at one third distance and was forced into retirement in the pits. That left only Palmer as a threat with the leaders more than 10 seconds clear of the pack.
Eng soaked up Palmer's pressure but never looked likely to succumb, adding this triumph to the one he scored in the British round of last year's F2 championship at Brands Hatch.
"I'm very happy," said Eng. "At the end Jolyon pushed very, very hard. I had one boost left for the last lap so that was perfect. I saw him coming a bit nearer, but it was never really a problem. I just focused forward and didn't look too much in my mirrors."
Jack Clarke had looked set for his maiden podium finish, following Stoneman's exit, but the Briton was jumped by Johan Jokinen for third when he ran wide at Stowe just three laps from the finish.
Will Bratt finished fifth with Sergei Afanasiev rounding out the top six.
As well as Stoneman, Benjamin Lariche and Kelvin Snoeks retired their cars in the pits. The only other retirement was Tom Gladdis, who went off at the bottom of the Vale.
