SUPERLEAGUE NEWS

Parente to Superleague with Porto

Alvaro ParenteAlvaro Parente will return to the Superleague Formula with FC Porto this year, having taken a victory for the team in a one-off appearance in Portugal last year.

The GP2 frontrunner won the second Estoril race in 2009, and now intends to contest a full campaign with the Reid Motorsport-run squad.

"As a fan, it's a great honour for me to be able to defend my club colours in this championship," Parente said. "Last year I could understand at Estoril the competitiveness that this series already has and I could feel the support from the fans, which was great.

"The car is different from the GP2 car, but it's very interesting to drive and it's a single-seater, which is good to keep me sharp."

He expects to be a contender for the championship this year.

"When I get in a competition, my goal is to win," said the 25-year-old Portuguese driver.

"I know it won't be easy, as there will be on track very good drivers. However, I think with effort and work, and with the team's help, we can fight for the top position in each race and, hopefully, for the championship."

Porto took fifth in last year's Superleague standings, with Tristan Gommendy its main driver during the season. Gommendy has moved to Galatasaray, run by Barazi-Epsilon, for 2010.
