Acropolis set to retain WRC slot
Greece's Acropolis Rally is expected to form part of a 15-round World Rally Championship next season
Having initially reported a schedule limited to 14 events next season, sources close to the organiser of the Acropolis have confirmed an agreement with North One Sport, the global promoter of the WRC.
AUTOSPORT's source said: "The Acropolis Rally is one of the most traditional events in the calendar, and has always been part of North One Sport's plans."
The Acropolis Rally will not run as a round of this year's championship due to the rotation policy which North One Sport inherited when it became the new WRC promoter.
One team manager in the WRC said: "A WRC without the Acropolis would not make sense. It's an amazing even and one which adds the real endurance element to the sport.
"Yes, it has struggled to find a home recently and we've moved around a little bit, but as much as this sport needs to look forward, it can't afford to ignore its roots. The Acropolis, from what I understand, has a very good future in the WRC."
The final 2011 calendar is subject to ratification at next month's meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
