Gavin thrilled with GT2 competition

Oliver Gavin says he is revelling in the level of competition in the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series following last weekend's Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta

The 37-year-old Briton has competed in the undersubscribed GT1 class in both Europe and America in recent seasons, and was encouraged by the number of rivals he had to compete against in a GT2 Corvette last weekend.

"It's great that BMW are coming back next year, great that Ferrari will be back and of course the Porsches," he said. "I think it's such a great class to race in just hope that it keeps this momentum and the good vibe.

"It's brilliant. All six of us will agree that it is fantastic to be out there racing hard - whether it's a Porsche, a Ferrari, or a Ford GT. We want it to continue like this, to be close and nip and tuck everywhere, with everyone pushing each other."

Gavin says he is also enjoying the racing more when there are more rivals to consider on track.

"You have got different cars that are strong in different places, so you have got to really try and figure out your strengths and how you can capitalise on them.

"We have been so used to racing against ourselves, or racing an Aston, you know very quickly how you can get past somebody. There are those little chinks in the armour with everybody and I think that is what is going to make the series so good for Laguna [Seca] and all of next year."
