Coletti joins Durango for Valencia

Stefano ColettiStefano Coletti will make his GP2 Series debut for Durango at this weekend's Valencia round.

The Formula 3 Euro Series race winner will take the seat left vacant by Davide Valsecchi, who in turn moved to Barwa Addax as replacement for Romain Grosjean.

The 20-year-old Monagasque says he recognises that stepping up mid-season will be tough, but that he couldn't turn down the opportunity.

"I know that in Valencia I will have a very difficult job to do, but this GP2 debut is a chance that I could not miss," he said. "So I know it will be difficult, but I am very happy as well."

Coletti is currently ninth in the Euro Series standings with Prema Powerteam and also made a one-off appearance for the team in Formula Renault 3.5 in the Monaco Grand Prix support race.

Durango team owner Ivone Pinton says he is looking forward to seeing Coletti in his car after helping him in the early stages of his career.

"Stefano's father is a long-time personal friend, which means I have known Stefano since he was born," he said.

"He ran his first tests and races in a single-seater under our wing with myself as a supervisor, so having him as a GP2 driver means something special. But, beyond the personal meanings, I am sure he will bring good results for Durango."
