Vietoris wins from pole at Lausitz

Christian Vietoris took a comfortable victory from pole position in the second F3 Euro Series race of the weekend at Lausitz on Sunday morning

The Mucke Motorsport driver was never under threat at the head of the field, as he controlled the race from start to finish.

He suffered a minor scare mid-race when he lost two seconds to his pursuers, but he was able to gradually increase the gap back above five seconds after that.

Behind him, Roberto Merhi sustained race-long pressure from Sam Bird to take the second podium finish of his rookie season, while Brendon Hartley had a lonely race as he repeated his fourth place from race one.

Front row starter Henkie Waldschmidt finished fifth after being swamped at the start, while Mika Maki, who had qualified last on the grid for the opening race, came through from 12th this time to take the final point.

The race did not go according to plan for the top three from Saturday's race, as all three would finish outside of the top 10 this time.

ART team-mates Jules Bianchi and Valtteri Bottas were both penalised for infringements at the start. The Finn's jump start was clear, as it vaulted him from seventh to second by the first corner.

The man who joined them on the podium in race one, Jean-Karl Vernay, also had a race to forget, as he was tagged into a spin on the first lap which dropped him out of contention.
