Coletti gets FR3.5 chance for Monaco

Formula 3 Euro Series championship leader Stefano Coletti will step up to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for round three of the championship in his home town of Monaco next week

Coletti's regular F3 squad, Prema Powerteam, will promote the 20-year-old former Red Bull Junior driver in place of Frankie Provenzano.

Prema endured a tough start to its 2009 World Series campaign with neither of their rookie signings, Provenzano and Colombian Julian Leal, scoring in the opening two rounds. Provenzano took part in the International Formula Master event at Pau with Trident Racing today.

"We're extremely happy to give Stefano such a great chance," said Prema's Team Principal Angelo Rosin. "We know how talented he is, having fielded him in the Formula 3 Euro Series since mid-2008. He's fast, clean and has a lot of potential, but it won't be easy to debut with a new car, on a street track featuring a single race instead of the usual two, and with such a limited practice time.

"I believe Stefano will be able to fight at the top given the right focus, which he proved to have in the past."

Coletti said that it meant a great deal to him to race on the streets of his home town for the first time.

"I've been waiting for this for a long time," he said. "As a child I already knew something strange was happening down the streets. Then, when I realised [about the grand prix] and started to race go-karts, the wait got even tougher, but finally I can announce my debut.

"I really want to thank Prema for this surprise, as well as all the people that made it all possible. It'll be really hard, on a totally unknown race configuration, but I hope to compensate with enthusiasm and have a nice time."
