Chilton joins Comtec for Monaco
British Formula 3 protagonist Max Chilton will make his Formula Renault 3.5 debut with Comtec Racing at Monaco
Chilton will fill the seat vacated by Frenchman Alex Marsoin, who left the team by mutual consent midway through the most recent World Series meeting at Spa-Francorchamps.
Marsoin had suffered heavily disrupted preparations to his season and was replaced for the opening round in Barcelona by Latvian racer Harald Schlegelmilch while waiting for expected backing to materialise.
Comtec boss Martin Donnelly has emphasised that there will be no expectation on Chilton, despite the impressive start to his Formula Three campaign with Carlin Motorsport where he has taken three pole-positions from four races.
"Max has tested for us a couple of times at the end of last year, but when he gets in the car for Thursday practice it will be a massive learning experience," said Donnelly. "It doesn't matter if he is one second off on the first day.
"As long as he stays away from the barriers and gets the laps in I am sure he will be able to go to bed that night and sleep easy in knowing that there will be plenty more time to come. He is doing this for a view to furthering his career, whether that will be in GP2 or World Series, but after Monaco he'll be back concentrating on Formula 3."
