Vettel tells Toro Rosso to keep pushing
Sebastian Vettel has urged his Scuderia Toro Rosso team not to ease off over the remainder of the season after taking their maiden win in Monza last weekend
The German became F1's youngest ever winner with a surprise victory in the Italian Grand Prix - and he wants to be sure that his team are in a position to win again if the opportunity comes their way.
That is why he thinks it may take him until after the end of the season to finally sit back and let his success sink in.
"It will probably need some time before that happens, because all of us are trying to keep the momentum for the next couple of races," Vettel told autosport.com.
"It wasn't only Monza, it was other races like Spa, Valencia and Hockenheim, where you could see we were getting stronger as a team. The package has good potential and it is up to us to use it.
"You cannot expect to win races in this sport. But our target is clear: when there is the chance to win you need also to be there and grab it.
"We are not on the same level as Ferrari and McLaren, but our target is to do the best we can. If it means winning races then we will take it - although we will just be happy to score points until the end of the season."
Vettel has spent two days this week getting to know his future Red Bull Racing team, and has dismissed any talk the try-out was a distraction to his efforts with Toro Rosso.
"It is an advantage to get this first feeling and then have the last day here with Toro Rosso to set down everything before going to Singapore. In the end it is only a positive thing.
When asked what his impressions were of the RB4, he said: "Obviously this test was just about getting a feeling with the team, the crew and the atmosphere. Obviously next year the rules are changing a lot and the car is as well.
"So in the end it was just about getting a first feeling. As you can imagine the cars are pretty similar, there was no real big difference. It was mainly about getting a feeling with the guys, and the engineers especially."
